Why is Candesartan Cilexetil used?
Candesartan cilexetil is used to treat:
- High blood pressure.
- Heart failure (weak heart) with decreased heart muscle function when an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor cannot be used, or in addition to it.
- Do not take candesartan cilexetil.
- If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you have severe liver disease or bile duct obstruction.
- If you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a medicine called aliskiren.
- In children under one year of age.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including:
- If you have heart problems.
- If you have liver problems.
- If you have kidney problems, are on dialysis, or have recently had a kidney transplant.
- If you have or have recently had severe vomiting or diarrhea.
- If you have an adrenal gland disease called Conn's syndrome (also called primary hyperaldosteronism).
- If you have low blood pressure.
- If you have ever had a stroke.
- If you are taking any of the following medicines: ACE inhibitors (such as enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril), aliskiren, an aldosterone receptor antagonist (MRA).
Possible side effects:
- Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency with which these side effects occur is not known.
Side effects include:
- dizziness
- headache
- upper respiratory tract infection
- Change in kidney function
- Other medicines and candesartan cilexetil
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take.
Tell your doctor especially if you are taking:
- Other medications that lower blood pressure.
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and diclofenac.
- Acetylsalicylic acid (if you take more than 3 grams each day).
- Potassium supplements.
- Heparin (to prevent blood clotting).
- Water tablets (diuretics).
- Lithium (for mental health problems).
- How to take candesartan cilexetil
- Take this medication as directed by your doctor.
- Take this medication at the same time each day.
- Take this medicine with or without food.
- The usual dose ranges from 4-8 mg per day. Your doctor may increase the dose to 32 mg if needed.
- For children, the usual dose ranges from 4–8 mg per day. Your doctor may increase the dose to 16 mg if needed.
How to store Candesartan Cilexetil:
- Store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton.
